Gamcheon Culture Village Busan 부산 감천문화마을 - Santorini of the Southern Sea

Busan, South Korea's second largest city, home to rollicking port town with tonnes to offers. From the largest beach, the longest river, to the world's biggest departement store can be found here.  Busan has something for all tastes from casual tent bars, chic designer cafes to traditional fish markets definitely gems at the Southern Tip of  the Korean Peninsula.

I travelled to Busan for few times, but most of it only for seminar and education purpose. So, during my last visit to Busan I extend it  for 1 day only for travel. Maybe it didn’t enough to fullfilled all my bucket list but i will definitely back someday kk.
Anyway, I visited Gamcheon Cultural Village (감천 문화 마을) during that day. This village originally called Taegukdo village. A religious community that believe in the Yin and Yang as their  philosophic principle which ruled the universe. However this Taeguk symbol still remains as important factor for Korean community as seen in the Korean Flag.
Gamcheon  used to be the city’s slum area after the refugees fled their homes for Busan and build shanty homes along the hillside. This area however remained as poor area until 2009 the Ministry of Tourism launch the creative community project. The streets were painted with mural and gravity and transformed into studios and galleries.  Recently, it began to attract the attention from tourist after appeared in Korean variety shows like Running Man and The Superman Returned.

no entrance fee to Gamcheon. If you want to make the trip more interesting, you can participate for the stamp hunt scavenger here. Buy the village map at the information center, visit the 9 listed location, get your card stamped and return it to any shop in the village to exchange. You also can send the postcard to yourself via slow mail post box at the village (I don’t know when will it reach you anyway >.<)
